evolution 2.12.1 on ubuntu 7.10. to reproduce the behavior create a contact that has the name and the IM address of the person at minimum then (make sure they are on your contacts list in pidgin) and go into preferences, under mail preferences on the automatic contacts tab enable the second option and then click Synchronize with buddy list now. when it has finished it will have a duplicate of the contact that you created instead of just updating it with info from the IM profile.
