I've recently been experiencing this problem a lot. I am using the
latest release of Ubuntu (Gutsy 7.10). I haven't had the same "rainbow
effect" that other users have been reporting, but my xserver definitely
crashes, and my monitor displays the same few hundred pixels from the
last good screen refresh over and over and over....

I'm running on amd64, with integrated graphics. i figured this was a
problem with an overload on my IG, but since reading these forums, am I
correct in assuming this is simply a bug that many users experience? I
can't see living with this problem for the rest of my linux experience
(I am a new user), and I'd still like to use GNOME. I've had a great
experience with Ubuntu (aside from this bug), and I don't plan to go
back to using XP or Vista, but I can't really afford to manually
restart my computer 20-30 times a day. Will this still occur with other
Net browsers? I have experienced this problem not only in Firefox, but
also when using Rhythmbox occasionally, though it is very rare.

I hope the Gutsy crew fixes this soon, it is ruining my life!
