Yeah, the computer stayed in the same place, although NM lists about 10 different access points. I tried to make it connect to just one access point by adding
iface eth1 inet dhcp wireless-mode managed wireless-essid `The MAC address of one access point` (Hopefully this is correct) to /etc/network/interfaces and then tried to manually bring up the network and dhclient still failed to get an ip address, although I couldn't find any debug output other than dhclient's "I couldn't get anything so I'm going to sleep" message.
