Similar issue with Brother HL-5250DN network printer. I've allocated a static ip address to this printer. I've tried to add it as an ipp printer and it's not found. I then tried adding it as a lpr/lpd printer. I then select the Make & model (to identify the ppd file in Gutsy's database). This works. However, when I try to print to it (using Evolution, Open Writer or Firefox) I get messages in /var/log/cups/error.log: E [28/Feb/2008:17:24:32 +0000] [Job 85] Unable to locate printer ''! E [28/Feb/2008:17:25:53 +0000] [cups-driverd] Unable to open PPD directory "/opt/share/ppd": No such file or directory
Interestingly, there is no /opt/share directory. I've also tried to install the ppd file from Brother's CD with the same result.
