I had the same problem with the mozmapi32.dll file that Fondulac
mentioned. I have discovered a workaround.

I am running Windows Vista Business, and part of the issue I think stems
from User rights. TBird's automatic updates feature does not work for me
since somehow it thinks I am a user with limited rights, and not the
administrator, and program updates require admin privileges. And this
even though I am logged on as owner/administrator.

Beats the heck outa me.

So as a result, I downloaded the complete version, tried to install over
the old version, and got the mozmapi32.dll error message. I tried
deleting this file, but the system wouldn't let me, again I think a
function of confusion about admin privileges.

However, I renamed the filed mozmapi31-2.dll, which the system did allow me to
do. I then moved everything in the Thunderbird program folder on the desktop,
with no T
Bird fold in the Progrram directory, then installed Tbird, and the installation
went through. The program seems to be working now.

Of course, keep in mind that your Tbird folder in AppsData needs to
remain so the program continues to recognize your mailboxes and previous
email
