not sure where the other problem may have come from. Any ideas or
guidance would be apprecaited. In the meantime I moved
/usr/bin/thunderbird out of the way, then ran "apt-get install
--reinstall thunderbird" to have it reinstall everything. I still had
the last .deb so that went well. Afterwards I checked again and this
time the symlink /usr/bin/thunderbird points to
../lib/thunderbird/thunderbird as it is supposed to.

Interested in any feedback you might have on the issue though. Thanks
