Do you have the standard .bashrc (i.e. is /home/xeno/.bashrc identical to /etc/skel/.bashrc) or do you have any other pertinent customizations which may be overriding the default Bash configuration on Ubuntu? What does complete -p bash print for you? (For me it says complete -o filenames -F _longopt bash)
