I tried it but it doesn't change anything when I set a resolution or not
on my external screen : the screen remain off.

Maybe this is an isue related to acpi. I use a toshiba satelite U200
laptop and I saw that acpi module (toshiba_acpi) was disable in linux-
image package. I also can't use the fn key to switch to the external
monitor (wheras usplach appears on the external monitor).
