@honggoff Thanks mate! I cleared a number of obsolete .DCOPserver_hostname__1 files from different users on the system which resolved the problem.
I wonder why stale files were lying around and were not tidied up automatically??.. a bit of a problem if you are not familiar with the linux command line!!
