Happens to me also - randomly as others have noted.

I'm new to Ununtu - so (hopefully) a fairly clean install of Gutsy -
from about 4 weeks ago.  On a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop.

Just had an example, and my gdm:o.log.1 shows -

Graphics are built-in Intel - nothing fancy.

Have installed both Compiz and Screenlets in the last 10 days, and don't
recall any issues before then, but couldn't swear to it. Usually have
Firefox running, but then always have it running, so can't say that's a
pattern.
