Ok, this is not inconsistent with what I'm seeing, since of all the
fonts you list the only one I have installed is FreeMono. :)
And off-by-one error seems possible. I agree this is a fontconfig
problem:
$ fc-match FreeMono
FreeMono.ttf: "FreeMono" "Normal"
$
Where "Normal" is Spanish, and should have been "Medium" in English.
