I'm experiencing the same problem with users-admin in Hardy, with the addition 
that when I open the groups pane it removes any LDAP users that *already exist* 
in the /etc/groups file from the groups.

I.e. My LDAP user "david" is part of the "fuse" group
When I run users-admin, it removes "david" (and any other LDAP users) from the 
fuse group (and all other groups, including "admin").
