I just upgraded to Hardy Heron 64-bit as well, and was repeatedly unable to get the screen to use its native resolution of 1680x1050. After uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers, manually editing my xorg.conf, and rebooting repeatedly, I finally got to a point where xrandr was at least showing the higher resolutions; at that point they became available as choices in the System->Preferences->Screen Resolution, and I can now see native pixels.
However, I have a new problem: Occasionally my mouse pointers develop a lot of visual garbage around them, dots and stripes which follow the pointer around, especially after visual effects (like closing or opening windows). I am attaching the files that seem to be frequently requested (xorg.conf, /var/log/Xorg.0.log). Below is the output of xrandr now (previous to my hacking around it only showed the incorrect, 1400x1050 option): elliott-thinkpad:/etc/X11> xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1680 x 1050, maximum 1680 x 1050 default connected 1680x1050+0+0 0mm x 0mm 1680x1050 60.0* 1440x900 60.0 1400x1050 60.0 1280x1024 60.0 1280x960 60.0 1280x768 60.0 1152x864 60.0 1024x768 60.0 960x600 60.0 800x600 60.0 768x480 60.0 640x480 60.0 640x400 60.0 512x384 60.0 400x300 60.0 320x240 60.0 320x200 60.0 ** Attachment added: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/13988858/xorg.conf -- [Hardy] After upgrade today can't detect screen size https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/214165 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
