Using the final release of Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy, I've encountered the same error with a Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT graphics card and 2 monitors connected via DVI: the system freezes during startup of X server. If one of the monitors was disconnected or connected via VGA, the system would boot up normally. But in that case, the output could only be cloned and both displays would show the same image, no matter what was selected in system preferences.
This bug occurs during booting the Live-CD as well as when booting a freshly installed Ubuntu. It seems to be a bug in the NV display driver, which is used by default because the shipped proprietary NVIDIA driver does not support the 9600 GT yet (see attached log file). ** Attachment added: "my Xorg log and conf file" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14026249/xorg.tar.gz -- nvidia card: hangs on start gdm if a second monitor on DVI-I is present https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/43710 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
