Thank you for the idea, but sadly, no joy. After enabling the restricted
driver, this is what is in the relevant section of xorg.conf:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Driver "nvidia"
Option "NoLogo" "True"
EndSection
I added the option "NvAGP" "1" with no change in the faulty behavior.
