Similar problems here. Sound began to stutter after Upgrade Gutsy => Hardy in all SDL-applications (most noticeable in Frozen-Bubble 2 which switched of eye-candy). My temporary solution: Remove "libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio" and replace with "libsdl1.2debian-all". Everything works perfect now, but Pulseaudio is not used anymore, so I am not really content with this workaround. Including the patch seems quite important, for many problems can be read in boards that never found a solution to the stuttering sound.
