This bug may have the same root cause as bug 190492, but note that I was
doing a FRESH INSTALL, while Kevin_b_er was upgrading.
For a new user trying to install Ubuntu for the first time to find that
the install disc crashes would be pretty off-putting. The work-around
proposed is not obvious if you don't yet have a /boot/grub/menu.lst, and
wouldn't know it if you did.
