I believe this bug may be a duplicate of #204996, which also describes a
very difficult to trace problem with the kernel locking up, seemingly at
random, with an enormous variety of hardware. Some people seem to have
other symptoms (sounding more like X problems!), but I believe the core
issue is the same there as it is here.
However, while I have done so for now, I am a tad hesitant to mark this
as duplicate since the issue has created numerous bug reports, some of
which could easily be "normal" driver problems. (Which makes this
problem only more urgent: Something else is definitely causing lockups,
and the longer that thing remains untraceable we have a big problem
where all lockup problems are considered duplicates of this one).
So, if you have any objections to me marking this as a duplicate, make
your voice known, feel free to change it back, etc.!
