This is for a couple of reasons.
1. GNOME doesn't wait for the GNOME logout sound to be played before killing
everything. Esound obviously manages to hold things up enough to play the
sound, whihc pulseaudio doesn't.
2. The pulseaudio x11 module also is loaded to make sure that pulseaudio
processes rae not left lying around on logout, so thanks to the GNOME session
logging out, the x11 module for pulseaudio shuts pulseaudio down.
Most users as it is are moving away from the computer when they logout,
so its thought that a logout sound is not needed.
