I had a chance to do a bit more poking around. Step 1 was run startx
from shell with ulimit -c unlimited. The result is a 10MB coredump on
Xgl, at:

Core was generated by `Xgl :2 -accel xv:fbo -accel glx:pbuffer -nolisten tcp
-fullscreen -br +xinerama'.
Program terminated with signal 11, Segmentation fault.

Reassigning to xserver-xgl. I can attach the entire 10MB coredump if
y'all need it.

I'm using the nvidia proprietary drivers. If there's anything else you
need, just ask.

** Changed in: xserver-xgl (Ubuntu)
