The two routers at the house in the countryside are completely not 
protected so therefore I don't think there is any encryption  problem.

Here in Florence the NETGEAR is   protected by a WPA  encryption  but 
the  INTEL works fine.

I think your idea of the not-initialization is probably more correct, in 
fact  the event of plugging an external adapter  gives a shake to the 
network-manager and something happens.

With the new kernel I get lots of messages at the shutdown :

something like   ......   nm-dbus .......   dbus-connection failed.... 
data ....

it is so quick that I cannot read nor take a note.
