It seems that my problem and the problem of xandl12 are not related.

xandl12 his problem was that the 'p4-clockmod module' is not loaded
automatically when the system starts.

In my case it tries to load the speedstep_centrino module (ok) but it
fails.

# sudo modprobe speedstep-centrino
FATAL: Error inserting speedstep_centrino 
(/lib/modules/2.6.17-10-386/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/speedstep-centrino.ko):
 No such device

# dmesg | tail -1
[17369756.408000] acpi_cpufreq: Unknown symbol cpu_online_map
