It's ther eper default in Kubuntu desktop, it seems, at least i don't
remember adding it. It's available from the applet list and dubbed
"Speichermedien" in german ("storage media" in english, probably). I do
not know how to get the canonical name.
Is there some sort of log i could enable/look at that might have
information about things failing? does kicker have a debug mode, or can
i make it at least dump whatever it writes to stdout somehwere? I
suspect the problem is something rather silly in the thend. at least, I
hope so :)
