What does "Ubuntu fails to boot" mean in particular?
Do I understand correctly, that the host system has been Windows XP and
from there you've started Virtualbox and installed Ubuntu therein, which
failed? (Again, how exactly?)
I've not checked it, but I'd say the emulated harddrive in Virtualbox
appears as /dev/hd* (and not /dev/sd*).
Have you expected that Ubuntu gets installed on the host system itself
by any chance?
