I have some other piece of information that might solve the mystery:
A few days ago, i was trying to connect a display to my laptop, and have a vlc
video on it. I used the nvidia-settings to detect and enable the new display
with the proper resolution. VLC crashed when resized or maximized, but that's
another issue and it's not important in this picture.
The thing that happened is that after a few X restarts, and a few console
switches (Ctrl+Alt+F1 and then Ctrl+Alt+F7 and a again a few times) and some
other actions, the Console (F1) crashed with the same pretty colors i get in
the suspend hang. I was able to switch back to X though by Ctrl+Alt+F7.
Switching again to the first text console revealed the colors. The thing is,
even with a not working console, now suspend WORKED! all the time actually. I
suspended and revived it a lot of times, with succesful results. What happened
next is that i accidentally shut the computer down, rendering in the previous
unable to suspend state. :((
Can it be related to the console video mode? Or can i make some configuration
changes that it would skip using the console when suspending or anything like
this?

maybe one of you has an idea on some fix :(
