I also have this bug on an IBM ThinkCentre (desktop), which uses an Intel
chipset, as shown below:

What is strange is that some times the volume control works normally and
suddenly some event triggers the problem and I cannot control the PCM volume
anymore.
The only temporary solution is to open a terminal and adjust the volumne using
alsamixer.
