Thank you for taking the time to report this problem and help to improve
Ubuntu.
According to recent debhelper changelogs, the -o option to
dh_installinit was introduced in debhelper 5.0.14. Ubuntu 6.06 shipped
with debhelper 5.0.7ubuntu13, which clearly predates this feature.
All later releases of Ubuntu include a later version of debhelper, so I
believe that this bug can be considered resolved. (Backporting
debhelper features to Ubuntu 6.06 does not meet the criteria for stable
release updates, so will not be fixed there.)
