David Bensimon : Thanks again for your work on this bug. Would you be able to log into this machine remotely via SSH and try to get more information about the running processes while usplash freezes the computer? Running "ps aux | less" on the computer would probably reveal processes which consumes abnormal percentage of RAM or CPU. If you find some, you can save ps outputs into a log file with this command : sudo ps aux > /tmp/ps.log
Also, from SSH, you might be able to generate more detailed debugging informations like a Backtrace (as described here : https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace) by attaching gdb to the problematic processes right before you start usplash to reproduce the crash.
