> FWIW I do not have this problem (RE: odd locked sample rates), though

I'm going to try a live cd (daily build from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20080724/) and see if it is locked by
default. I already tried an old hardy install with dist-upgrading to
intrepid, but the lock was still there. But after I used alsamixer (not
envy24control) to unlock it, it was unlocked during the next boot
(something that envy24control was never able to do). And I have tried the
alsactl store / restore mantra before, but it never worked. Now it seems
to be working. But still, the original problem is still to be tested;
whether the rate is 8000Hz and locked in a _fresh_ install (or live cd)

After suspension all I have to do is alsa restart. The resume script does
it, but the card is somehow not yet 'ready', so I must do it again. The
same goes for my network card, it's not reacting to the resuming, so I
have to run ifup or dhcp manually (well I did a cron script that checks
every minute if the card is working or not and does ifup if ping does not
work)

I just hate these hacks I do. Better if I just reported bugs.. and yes I
have a hack to overcome the locked rate.
