Brain, Thanks for the follow up. At this time (8/2008) the log out sound does not play. However this may be a Gnome issue as I noticed this is the case with openSuSE/Gnome 11 as well. It may also be true with Linux MINT.
Some thread elsewhere have suggest this function will be dropped as some feel it is not necessary.
