Public bug reported:
Hi,
I want to call your attention that "gksu /usr/sbin/gdmsetup" window
vanishes after a moment. Once and once again.
To restart the PC it does not work.
Also it happens in other apps, like "network-admin" or with
"/usr/share/apport/apport-gtk -c %f"... I couldn't report this problem
through such means included in Ubuntu.
The error I got when trying to start network-admin it was:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ gksudo network-admin
** (network-admin:21869): CRITICAL **: Unable to lookup session
information for process '21869'
I tried then to turn-off the Desktop effects and it worked. Although not for
the "Report a problem" app.
More info about my PC:
Ubuntu 8.04 (hardy)
LInux 2.6.24-19-generic
GNOME 2.22.3
Hardware:
RAM: 757,1 MB
Processor: AMD Sempron 2800+
Ubuntu gets better each time and I am quite glad for it. I really like
this OS and I am sure it will be still better and better (perhaps too
much quickly?).
But some applications that do not start, or some windows that vanish
randomly... It frankly are a bit (quite) discouraging. Also, because
this is not the first time I get such errors.
In past Ubuntu editions I got similar problems too. I think that at
least *always* opening the programs and not closing suddenly it should
be one of the first questions to be very, very assured, so that one can
really say that the OS "just works".
Stability it's one of the main features in Linux... Or it is so said, so
I am a bit perplexed for these quite basic problems.
This is the only point I am worried about. Everything else, I think
Ubuntu it's a rather nice OS.
Regards,
Victor
