Yeah, I've been looking into this more over the last couple days. I think fixing bugs in Network Manager is more productive. Reasons being: 1) it works in most cases. The case I was having problems with was static IPs but I believe that is getting fixed in the next upload. 2) feature parity between the Network tool and Network Manager is pretty good. NM doesn't allow you to change the hostname or hosts, but allowing users to change the hostname from GUI is not a good idea anyway. It's probably better to leave that to CLI. 3) having 2 networking tools in 2 different places is confusing. I want to be able to be able to go to a single place to deal with all networking. The NM applet is getting very close to doing it all for me at least and has a better interface for managing everything. 4) a lot of tools, for better or worse, look to NM to detect if networking is present or not so it's better to have it working properly.
