Yes, the font looks ugly - also on my hardy machine.

But I don't think it's a firefox bug. Because you have openjdk-6-jre-
headless installed on your system, I suppose openjdk is your default
java. Try to change your default java to sun-java6:

update-alternatives --config java

Then try to run a java application like netx to see if the fonts
changed. In my case all java applications have different fonts with
Sun's java.

I going to file a bug report for the package openjdk-6-jre-headless.
