Leann happy to help ... however there are a couple of (3) points
1. have just used git to get the ubuntu-intrepid repository (2.6.27-2 source) and attempted to build using AUTOBUILD=1 ...... Build fails with '/bin/bash: makedumpfile: command not found'. Have managed to determine that this is a known problem and that makedumpfile is not included in the main repository. I'm no developer, first time I've used git (previously built the old-fashioned way) so do not know what to do about it. At point 1) in your email below you refer to a "linux-image-2.6.27-* package" - I've not been able to locate a version so I guess I'll have to wait for the Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release 2. you also say you would like to see if the problem exists for 2.6.26. Using 'git tag -l' I note that there are 2.6.26, 2.6.26.1 and 2.6.26.2 versions in the stable release branch. Which one(s) do you wish me to test or do you want the development release branch one(s) tested. The big problem here though is that I do not know how to use git to get the source for these earlier releases. 3. I've just installed 8.04 Hardy (alternate install CD) with v2.6.24-19 (x86_64 generic) and the problem is resolved for this release - works fine. Perhaps this is my fault - after getting and logging this fault I sort of got distracted and started playing with LinuxFromScratch and Gentoo however I'm now back with Ubuntu and plan to stick with it. So I can either close the bug report because of point 3 or test 2.6.27-2 to be extra sure. cheers Mark ----- Original Message ----- From: "Leann Ogasawara" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, August 29, 2008 8:05 AM Subject: [Bug 177731] Re: kernel param vga=0x317 causes boot fail The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test: 1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux- image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test. --or-- 2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD. Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback. ** Tags added: cft-2.6.27 -- kernel param vga=0x317 causes boot fail https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/177731 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug.
