apt and Synaptic report sizes in 1000s of bytes, not 1024s, so the
lowercase k is correct.  (k- = 1,000, M- = 1,000,000, ...)

(This is really the way *all* apps should report file sizes, since the
1024 convention is unfamiliar to end-users and serves no purpose.)
