Re-assigning from hal-cups-utils to hal, as it is the configuration of
the HAL package failing which is causing the upgrade of hal-cups-utils
to fail.
I notice from your logs that something is crashing. Could you please
enable Apport and have that generate a crash report, which you can
submit as a new bug report. You might need to enable Apport in
/etc/default/apport. Once you have done this, you will need to restart.
After you have repeated the crash by attempting to upgrade the packages
again, use your file browser to navigate to /var/crash, where there
should be a crash report. Double clicking on the crash report icon will
allow you to submit it as a new bug report.
