We received this morning an automated email from Amazon informing us of possible loss of data in EBS snapshots on the EU-WEST-1 region. Our engineering team immediately started an assessment of the damages this might have caused to the EBS images that we publish for our users. We are working with Amazon to re-mediate customer impact and prevent any future outages.
Due to inconsistent API results we have to recommend to avoid using the following images on EU-WEST-1 at the moment as we cannot guarantee that they are working properly: http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/releases/10.04/release-20110719/ ami-5c417128 ebs/ubuntu-lucid-10.04-amd64-server-20110719 ami-52417126 ebs/ubuntu-lucid-10.04-i386-server-20110719 As a precaution, we would recommend users to use 10.04 images in another region, or temporarily revert to the previous version of this image for which the API apparently never returns an error status. http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/releases/10.04/release-20110601/ ami-4290a636 ebs/ubuntu-lucid-10.04-amd64-server-20110601 ami-4090a634 ebs/ubuntu-lucid-10.04-i386-server-201106011 A number of non-current daily build and old alpha or beta images have been affected as well, but we hope that no one would have been using these images for production use; we are not planning corrective actions for these images.
