Right this file is not read in the current code, mind you I don't see anything in the old code that suggests it was read from there either. gnome-desktop used g_get_user_config_dir() so unless that magically reads system configs for the greeter I am not sure, however I will try that and see what happens

This seems strange, pointer barriers are not managed by gnome-settings-daemon et al. What DE are you using here Unity? Will try and reproduce this one.
