Yes, I believe that the integrated Printers panel in
gnome-control-center provides a nicer overall experience than the
standalone system-config-printer.

Are there major shortcomings you want to see fixed before 17.10's release?

1. Clicking existing printers and trying to open their options dialogs results in

2. If clicking the "Add.." button a list of printers to add appears. But the list is useless. For every CUPS queue which is already installed an entry with "-2" added to the queue name and an SMB URI appears. The really relevant entries, my USB printer and my network printer (which appear in "lpinfo -v") are not in the list.
