For instance https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1212821 I suspect that a fair proportion of the machines still running XP may well not run Unity satisfactorily due to insufficient 3D capabilities in the graphics h/w. On 12.04 Unity 2d works fine but an upgrade to 14.04 could be disastrous.
