I just came back from Windows which I had to install to update my BIOS due to
other issues I'm experiencing, one of them being a bugged microphone. On Win 7
Ultimate x64 my microphone is working crystal clear, on Ubuntu it's not the
case.

People can barely hear me, they hear scratching sounds, distorted noise
instead, and even the volume slider detecting my voice in settings barely goes
up.

Any suggestions? If a bug should be filed, then against which package?

Nothing ruins creativity like too many voices weighing in. We call it the Ice
Cream Principle. Tell 10 people to go get ice cream with one condition: they
all have to agree on one flavour. That flavour is going to be chocolate or
vanilla every time. Groups of people don't agree on what's cool or interesting,
they agree on what's easy to agree on.
