The cause of the FTBFS on Natty is that the file /usr/lib/expat.a has apparently been relocated to /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libexpat.a in Natty. This is installed by the package libexpat1-dev . I do not yet know whether that change is deliberate, or whether it is a bug which will be corrected before Natty is released. I suspect the latter, so I don't want to spend time on updating the package to look for it it the new location at this stage.
