  I have no idea how to check these settings... while windows is working fine 
(with the same settings which ever are already there)... linux is giving me a 
hard time :-(

Is the modem or the router assigning the IP addresses to machines that
connect? I've had some success in turning off DHCP on the wireless
router and letting the modem assign IP addresses via DHCP.

Also, are the modem and the router on the same subnet?
