Hi! I sent a Dell Laptop to me parents in India with UBUNTU 6.06. I have mailed in this group about it quite a few times. Earlier he had some troubles with its internal modem which nobody knew about it in his small town of Lansdowne, UP. Somebody offered to help us in this group from Delhi, and my Dad was able to get it fixed with the help in Delhi after three months of getting the laptop.
Later on, My dad moved to Allahabad and got broadband. Again, same problem. Nobody had ever heard about UBUNTU, nobody knew how to set up broadband for him. One of my friend was able to upgrade his computer to UBUNTU 7.10, and then his existing internal modem configuration also got lost. Now, neither his internal modem nor broadband is working. I am not sure if it was really worth sending him a UBUNTU laptop. This whole thing has been extremely annoying.
