Amit,
I would suggest that you run through this guide once and see if all
steps have been followed:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Internet/ConnectionSharing
If it doesn't break your network to start from scratch, consider
following the document and let us know.

dear all
i have a desktop running in ubuntu 8.10
i have 2 networks.
1. for my office application to a LAN card have the following IP
address 192.168.1.7, subnet mask 255.255.255.0; default gateway -
192.168.1.1
2. wireless network through a USB wireless adaptor having the following IP
address 192.168.2.16, subnet mask 255.255.255.0; default gateway -
192.168.2.1. also, i am connecting to the internet using the same.
when i connect both the network together, the wireless network does not work
for internet.
i mean i can access the computer, but the internet will not surf.
can any1 help me in this regard.
what m i doing wrong??
Amit
PS .. this all started after i made a recent update to ubuntu 8.10.
previously, both networks were working perfectly (for 2 days).
Check the output of 'route'. It is possible that you have two
'default' routes setup and the first of them is the one with lan card
IP. If taht is the case then all the traffic is trying to go out
through your lan card which is not working.
What you can do is in networking configuration, do not specify the
gateway for lan card. That way only the traffic to 192.168.1.x
addresses will go through your lan card and rest will go through the
wireless network.
