You can try a few things. Go to Machine > Settings and click on USB in the left pane and confirm that both the checkboxes are enabled. Secondly, with your USB drive connected, click on the "Add filter from device" button on the right-hand side. This will show you the connected USB drive, just select it. Then unmount the USB drive. After this load, load your virtual machine and then connect the USB device. Now hopefully the device will show up.
