I think he has already done that, meaning installed Ubuntu after (as he says on) Vista. Regarding a solution - yes grub recovery is possible and the steps are quite tedious and require concentration and no mistakes see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Reinstalling%20GRUB%202 however if its not too much of a pain (in terms of connectivity etc) i think you should go for a fresh reinstall. However to clarify i do hope you have a separate /home partition, if so then reinstalling is not just quicker and much less painful. The Grub rescue modes require you to boot using a Live Ubuntu CD, finding and mounting the /boot partition (or if combined with root then finding the /root partition) and then using some simple by needing heavy "correct syntax" requirements. Last Thoughts: A few days earlier i spent a few hours in the phone advising step by step how to reinstall grub and we followed every single step and the end result was that grub did not get recovered, so we had to do a fresh install which turned out to be faster, simpler and cleaner. ram -- ubuntu-in mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in
