Hi Ram,
Am curious if folks know of any open source accounting packages which
are being used on a daily basis by non profits or other small
organizations (in india)
IT for Change(http://itforchange.net/), a non-profit organisation based
in Bangalore uses frontaccounting.
*
Have been trying to figure out what is best and there are many options
(available in the repos)
*sql-ledger*
*frontaccounting*
*gnucash (mostly for individuals)*
available as tarballs etc from sites likes sourceforge
*gnuaccounting*
*
In all these cases there is a considerable setup time and possibily a
learning curve. And since most of these are $ based would However am
still to come across reviews or information of use of any of these (or
any others) by non profits (and / or small organizations)
You can install Indian chart of accounts in frontaccounting to set home
currency as INR. IT for Change has been using frontaccounting from past
one year. Also, you can find few Indian users in fronaccounting forums(
http://frontaccounting.com/punbb/).
You can also consider trying GnuKhata( http://www.gnukhata.org/), based
on your needs.
Also would be happy to know of any actual use guides and manuals.
User Manual is available for
GnuKhata(http://www.gnukhata.org/wiki/User%20Manual) and fawiki(
http://frontaccounting.com/fawiki/) would help you with frontaccounting.:)
regards,
