HI James Thanks
I have been using hplip - for all the HP devices , so far. They only issue has been with a HP 1020 plus printer, which some one posted a solution to here, <http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=10910&start=20#p1049671> am still to verify that this works, trouble being its an either or situation - either Hp1020 plus or some other device. So essentially what you are saying if HPLIP lists that printer / mfd as supported recognizes that printer / mfd we are good to go. Did not post the HPLIP link simply because not all their drivers are open source, some are propitiatory Also was looking for personal user / actual use references. Maybe we should start collating devices that work well under Linux , specific to India. ram On 9 August 2015 at 17:05, James Sebastian <[email protected]> wrote: > Dear Ram, > > > On 9 August 2015 at 01:18, Ramnarayan.K <[email protected]> wrote: > >> Hi >> >> Have been scouting for a laser printer / laser mfd >> >> and have shortlisted these candidates >> >> but >> >> *would be really grateful if you could let me know if any of you have >> the LASER MONO or MFD's working under linux or what you actually use (LASER >> only)* >> > Please review the HP printer models at > http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/supported_devices/index.html > From my past experience, I could install almost all printers from HP in > Ubuntu without much/any trouble. > > If suitable driver is not found and if it is supported by HPLIP > http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/downloads.html > It will prompt for download from a terminal and install drivers. > > On few models where I had trouble in installing command line utilities > like hp-doctor checked, diagnosed and fixed the driver challenges by > itself, saving downloading different packages by itself and/or answering > few questions. > > Unfortunately, I did not keep a list of supported printers with Ubuntu > versions I used in my customer places. > > Regards, > > James > > > UBUNTU WIKI of supported Printers > <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsPrinters> Open Printing > - Printer Data base <http://www.openprinting.org/printers> Linux Deal - > sellers of Linux Compatible Printers <http://linuxdeal.com/printers.php> SANE > open source scanner project - compatibility > <http://sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html> > > -- > ubuntu-in mailing list > [email protected] > https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in > >
