Hello:

I want to share with everyone a comment that I got from a few people
when they wanted to try the Ubuntu Live-CD.

When the Menu option "Start ... Install Ubuntu" appeared they
immediately were scared off by the word install because they thought it
would install and delete everything on there system.

Another observation that I have had with promoting Ubuntu is the need to
address the customs concerns, given the nature of the product. However
when doing this we can't over addresses them and make them go running
back to windows in fear.

I have a couple of idea for the splash screen:

1) Separate Start and Install into two menu items, and remove the
Install icon on the desktop for the "start option". The "install option
stays the same.

2) Have a "Test Drive" option with or with out the install icon on the
desktop and the next option is "Ready to Install" which works the same
as start and install.

3) Remove the splash screen all together on the trial disks and just
start the operating system in live mode and let people know that it will
not hurt their system and that when the are ready they can run the
installer either by double clicking an icon and/or from a menu
selection.

The bottom line is that if people are not comfortable with the wording
of the splash screen, they are not going to try the software.

Peace,
